Add-ons are installable enhancements on Mozilla Firefox which allow user to add or augment application features, use new themes, and handle new types of content. Add-ons will often work outside of their compatibility range. But, you can edit the metadata file to allow the released version of the add-on to run on their install. And here we come with its tips.
On Firefox 4, the latest version, there are several incompatible add-ons. Fortunately, there's a way to turn off Firefox's compatibility check, which is what blocks these add-ons from running. Check out the guides!
How to turn off Firefox's Add-ons compatibility check:
- Open a new tab, type about: config in the address bar, and press Enter.
- Right-click anywhere in the main window, then click New, Boolean.
- Copy and paste in the following preference name: extensions.checkCompatibility.4.0
- Click OK, then set the value to False (which is the default).
- Exit and restart Firefox.
- Now you should have full access to all your add-ons (and plug-ins).
But, if you don't want to take the risk of messing up your browser, you can be patience and wait for most developers update their add-ons to be compatible with Firefox 4, though never know how long it will take. It’s back to your choice.
