GDC 2011

GDC is a short of Game Developers Conference. GDC is the largest annual gathering of professional video game developers. This year, GDC 2011 is held in San Fransisco, February 28 - March 4.

GDC is focusing on learning, inspiration, and networking. The event consist of an expo and networking events. GDBC also has awards shows such as the Independent Games Festival and the Game Developers Choice Awards. Besides that, GDC provides variety of tutorials, lectures, and roundtables by industry professionals on game-related topics covering programming, design, audio, production, business and management, and visual arts. GDC is a complete game conference.

The lack of this event is that the event only open to industry professionals. However, its closed nature shouldn’t suggest it offers nothing of interest to gamers at large.

May be the most interesting show of this event is the Game Developers Choice Awards, a ceremony that celebrates outstanding achievements in game making from the previous calendar year. The prizes conferred recognize accomplishments in a wide variety of fields, including writing, technology, design, and innovation. GDC awards are among the most meaningful a game maker can receive because the winners are selected by a group of peers. The winners will be announced at Wednesday night. We'll know who the winners soon.

Besides GDC 2011 in San Fransisco, also will be held GDC Europe 2011 in Cologne, Germany on August 15-17, 2011.

New MacBook Pro 2011

New MacBook Pro appeared as one of hot topic today. What's might be included beyond an upgrade to Intel's Sandy Bridge processors in the New MacBook Pro?

Reported, new MacBook Pros will offer larger trackpads than those found on current models. Surely it's opening the door for greater flexibility for users and perhaps options for more complex gestures.

The report also claims that the updated machines will offer a dedicated solid-state drive of 8-16 GB to house Mac OS X system files that would allow for fast system boot-up and performance. Additional machine storage would be made available in either traditional hard drives or with solid-state drive upgrades.

Other report said that OS on the laptops will be loaded to a separate (internal) 8-16GB SSD while everything else will remain on the regular hard drive. There will be options for just SSD drives but the base models will feature regular hard disks with the SSD combo for the OS.

The idea of separate flash-based storage for system files is not a new one, Apple might adopt Intel's "Turbo Memory" feature that offered similar functionality. At the time the advantages of using an SSD/Hard Drive hybrid were improved performance and longer battery life.

Apple has shaved approximately half a pound off of the weight of each of the MacBook Pro models, indicates a source. It's also a good news. You can check more information about New MacBook Pro at www.macrumors.com.

Steve Jobs' Health News

Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO, is still working on company’s products, although officially he’s on break for health reasons. Steve Jobs has been taking business meetings at home and on the phone. Steve Jobs has also been seen in Apple Cupertino Campus and in Palo alto in public with Apple Executives earlier this week, according to a report.

An Apple spokesman said, “Steve is the CEO of Apple and during his medical leave he’ll continue to be involved in major strategic decisions.”

Steve Jobs announced his break from business last month, with Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook continuing to manage daily operations. Jobs would remain involved in strategic decisions, said the spokesman. And yes, it appears this is the case. The fact that Jobs stayed involved in Apple’s management during previous absences indicates that this is likely to the case again.

Another sources said that among products he is continuing to work on are the next version of the iPad tablet computer, expected out in the next couple of months, and a new iPhone, expected to be released this summer.

Maybe his health is not a big problem for Steve Jobs, but surely we keep hope the best for his health.

Eric Schmidt: Australia Was Leading The World

Eric Schmidt is Google chairman. Recent news, Eric Schmidt claimed Prime Minister Julia Gillard had announced that 93% of Australians would get NBN fibre by “2015 or 2016" at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Schmidt said Australia was leading the world and praised the NBN.

Eric Schmidt said, “Australia is leading the world in understanding the importance of fibre. Your new prime minister as part of her campaign and, now, part of her prime ministership, has announced that by roughly 2015 or 2016, 93% of Australians - which I guess are all the folks in the cities, will have gigabit or equivalent service using fibre. And the other 7% will be handled by wireless services of a nature of LTE. This is leadership which I think is wonderful."

In Australia, wireless-only internet households are now estimated to comprise 13% of all users and continue to grow rapidly. The Government, in its NBN business plan, projects that this will grow to just 16.3% by 2025, while wireless proponents are forecasting 25% or higher by then.

Schmidt’s NBN timeframe significantly shortened even the Government’s own optimistic election campaign forecast of an 8-year rollout of fibre to 93% of the population completed by 2017/18. But, the rollout will take considerably longer than that, extending into the middle of the next decade, believed many experts.
