
webOS is a mobile operating system which initially developed by Palm Computing and subsequently by HP. WebOS is running on the Linux kernel. Recently, webOS is become one of the most user-friendly and cute mobile operating systems.
webOS was introduced by Palm at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegasin January 2009 as the successor to the legacy Palm OS. Palm Pre was the original device to utilize webOS which was released on Sprint in June 2009.
In April 2010, HP purchased Palm. The purchase finalizing in June. Following this $1.2 billion purchase of Palm in 2010, HP announced plans to develop the webOS platform for use in multiple products, including smartphones, tablet computers and printers. webOS was described as a key asset and motivation for the strategic purchase.
Then, HP announced a series of new devices that will utilize webOS as the operating system, including the HP Pre 3 and HP Veersmartphones, which will run webOS 2.2 at launch in February 2011. The company also announced its first mainstream mobile tablet computer, the HP TouchPad, which will run webOS 3.0 when it is released in Summer 2011.
Additional webOS versions and devices were announced by HP in 2011 February including the Touchpad, the Pre 3 and the Veer.
